In truth, I really enjoyed the season premiere of Smallville.  Brian Austin Green was actually pretty decent, plot was good, interesting twist in that (Major) Zod is an earlier version of (General) Zod (kinda like the Reverse Flash arc in the Wally West Flash comics, which was brilliant).  I thought it was already a vast improvement from last year. Then I watched Thursday's Supernatural.  Dean trying to get Castiel laid. Cass's look on his face in the brothel.  Lost's Jacob as Lucifer.  Sam is Lucifer's true vessel.  The whole damn episode was just pure joy to watch. The Smallville writers need to be locked in a room and watch the last 4 seasons of Supernatural.  If only to avoid the inevitable ultra-crap episode like Stiletto or Subterranean , or the worst episode of TV in the history of television, Hero .  Supernatural never has an episode even remotely that bad. (alright, even Lucifer himself has never been as bad as Hero ). Sam and Dean are henceforth being watched on the DVR before Clark.  And if you know me at all, how much a Superman junkie I am, that is something in itself. Steve

Steve hehehe - you echoed many of my comments on the Supernatural NG.  This is the best ep of that show in a long time, but even at its worst, it makes SV look like a grade school play. Supernatural is my current can't miss show.  The ONLY one. Natalie

Steve I've always said that if Smallville had Supernatural's creative team, and writers, it would have been one of the best shows on TV show. To be honest, I truly hope this is the last season. I know some people hated on the direction Supernatural took last year, but I think it was brilliant.  It's going to an even darker place this season.   It's easily one of the best guilty pleasures on on TV.  Quite frankly, it's probably the only network TV drama I really look forward to these days.

You said pretty much what I did.  The fangirls wanted to keep seeing them alone, fighting the bad old monsters, but the show really did need more cast members. I LOVE what they're doing with Castiel! And I was tired of the tension between them all the time - they needed to be separated, at least temporarily. I disagree that it's a guilty pleasure though; that implies it's mindless fun - this show has more gravitas than most of the shit on TV - *especially the other CW shows*. I don't think it's a turn-off-your-brain show at all; that de_script_ion would go to the current Smallville eps. Natalie

I didn't mean it that way, but that was the wrong choice of words.  It's definitely an intelligently written show.  I think it's  one of the most smartly written network TV shows right now.
