Gripping subject matter, riveting performances from quite a few actors that are much more talented than the hollow Saving Private Ryan, Malick is also very talented.  In 'Ryan, Burns shows his limited acting skills, Damon lacks believability with his mechanical textbook _style_, Hanks is a great guy but his minimalist acting skills are a limitation despite displaying more emotion than Damon or Burns.  Thin Red Line's cast is vastly superior, more acting chops, more raw naturalsim and nuance, directing is also more riveting. The trailer is an excellent teaser. Only a few Fox suits have scene the film behind closed doors, apparently Penn and Brody provide 2 of the more riveting performances but the entire cast is not to be missed.

Have you seen the film?  If not, please don't declare Thin Red Line to be the greatest of them all.  It will certainly be very good, with Malick, Sean Penn, and Adrian Brody.  But first see the film before you declare it better than another very, very good film in Saving Private Ryan.
