Opposers claim 587 B.C. is the correct date for the destruction of Jerusalem, the exile of the Jews into captivity in Babylon and not 607 B.C. Critics quote many historians, Bible dicitonaries and Bible commentaries that agree on 587 B.C. Critics claim the Watchtower cannot quote a single authority to prove 607 BC is the correct date. Note: According to critics that means the Watchtower is 20 years short in their chronology of the seven times of the nations and Christ’s enthronement as King in 1914. Lu. 21:24; Dan 4:10-17; Exe. 21:25-27; Rev. 11:15; 12:10.   2500 years form 607 B.C. to 1914 A.D. Therefore critics reject 1914. Consider a Bible-_base_d reply to critics. Lev. 25:1-7 states God’s law regarding the plantion on the land. Six years of planting and harvesting on a piece of land. God’s law stated that piece of land was to rest the entire seventh year. This law was called the land Sabbath and  required strict obedience. At Lev. 26:31-35 God warned Israel that he would enforce this land Sabbath if they failed to let that piece of ground rest completely for that whole seventh year. That warning clearly stated God would completely desolate the entire promised land and desolate all the cities of Jewish inhabitants and scatter them among the nations. Israel as a nation ignored this warning and broke God’s law. They failed to keep the land Sabbath commandment. God enforced this commandment by desolating the promised land of Israelite inhabitants and exiling them into Babylonian captivity. The Bible is very clear that this total desolation of the promised land and exile to Babylon would be 70 full years. Jer. 25:11, 12; 2 Chron. 36:21; Dan. 9:2; Zech. 1:12; 7:5 all cleraly state seventy times, 70 years. THE EVIDENCE directly from GOD’S WORD: Jer. 25:11, 12 “serve the king of Babylon seventy years” “and it must occur that when seventy years have been fulfilled I shall call to account against the king of Babylon… and I will make it desolate wastes” Jer. 29:10 This is what Jehovah has saie, “In accord with the fulfilling of the seventy years at Babylon I shall turn my attention to your people… bringing you back to this place” II Chron. 36:21 “To fulfill Jehovah’s word by Jeremiah until the land had paid off its Sabbaths. When I looked back at it, I didn't see it mentioned.  But it IS mentioned in other articles by him.  What would that have to do with coming up with 606 anyway?  You don't go through the zero period by adding 70 to 537.  It would seem that you would come to 607, but Biblical years are 360 days.  Therefore, the prophecies need to be calculated using 360 days, then you need to count the days on our calendars.  Below is a larger section taken from http://yfiles.com/jerusalem.html.
