Newsflash

At the interview on the job did not provide first hand to a future employer (a man) just waited until he can. Do you make a faux pas?

Okay _base_ball genuises.  Which is more infrequent in _base_ball?  A no-hitter (please don't include these half no-hitters where pitchers pitch 6 innings and the bullpen and the pitcher share the fame) or a stolen home or hitting for the cycle?  Inquiring minds would like to know.                                                 Ernie

I'm going to go with hitting for the cycle. Home can be stolen pretty easily with a double steal. Ryan Robbins University of Maine This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  <

My guess would be hit for the cycle the most rare, then no hitter, then steal of home (do you mean straight steal of home or any steal?). Nate RociNate

[Please put carriage returns in your text; not all newsreaders have  auto-wrap features...] When I looked into this a few years ago, there had been 174 9+ inning no-hitters in MLB history, and p_layer_s had hit for the cycle 200 times. I think the no-hitters are catching up slowly. Stealing home is an odd case.  37 different p_layer_s have stolen home 10 times or more; among them they probably have done it about 600 times.  So, in that sense, it's more common than either of the other categories. On the other hand, the last p_layer_ to do it 10 or more times was Rod Carew (17), and before him it was Jackie Robinson (19).  Since the '50s, I think stealing home has become just as rare as these other feats, at least if you only consider straight steals (as opposed to the front end of a double- steal). (Ty Cobb did it 50 times; Max Carey 33.)
